Barrington made it interesting for a half, but in the end the Broncos’ defense simply had no answer for Zach Oles.

Palatine’s senior quarterback ran for five touchdowns and threw for one more as the No. 6 Pirates ran away with a 49-31 victory over No.7 Barrington in a showdown between undefeated Top 10 teams with the MSL West title on the line.

The Broncos trailed 28-21 at the half in front of a packed house at Barrington Community Stadium, but Palatine ripped off 21 straight points to start the second half and put the game out of reach.

Here’s what the local media had to say about the first lossof the season for Barrington (7-1):

- Varsity B brings it home with a 14-8 win at Stevenson

- Junior Varsity (5-3) emerged with a hard-fought 14-12 victory for its fourth win in five games

- Freshman Red (6-1), which has put up big scores all season, produced a 43-0 beatdown
